Fitting Weekend

Do you dream of a top that fits perfectly or a pair of trousers that aren't baggy at the waist?
Maybe you're putting off more ambitious makes because you aren't sure how to fit them properly?

Join me for my Fitting Weekend in my West Wales sewing studio where you'll learn the process of fitting a pattern of your choice to your own measurements so you can get your ideal fit every time.

Fitting Weekend

Date: Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th November
Location: West Wales, SA38 9BS

Time: 9:30am - 5pm both days
Price: £350 (payment plan available)

  • On the Fitting Weekend sewing course, you'll learn the process of fitting your garments so that you can achieve your desired fit, every time. You'll learn the how and the why of the fitting process, so it can be easily applied and repeated on other garments going forward.

  • Instead of feeling disheartened by your self-sewn garments, take back control and reclaim the joy of sewing by learning to fit them correctly. Create a pattern you can trust to give you your ideal fit every time, and avoid the disappointment of a just-not-right fit.

  • To ensure maximum 1-1 fitting expertise, there are a maximum of 4 spaces available for this class. This allows you to bring any pattern you would like, rather than limiting it to one category.

  • This sewing class is ideal for a Garment Explorer or Seasoned Sewist, looking to take their sewing skills to the next level. The ability to use a sewing machine, use sewing patterns and previous garment making experience is essential.

  • Don't believe getting a great fit is possible? See what our previous students have to say about it!

What You'll Learn on the Fitting Weekend

You'll learn the process of getting a good fit on your garments.
This includes;

  • Choosing the right size

  • Pre-empting fitting issues

  • Making common adjustments

  • Learning how to toile

  • Learning how to assess your toile

  • How to transfer the adjustments onto your pattern

  • How to read fitting adjustment instructions

On the first day, we'll begin with some background theory about the fitting process and how it works. When you engage in the fitting process, you might do a few things differently like pre-empting possible fitting issues which may influence the size you pick. This is where we will begin.

From there, you will learn how best to prime your pattern for the toiling process which may include some preliminary adjustments. Then in the afternoon,  you will cut and sew your toile.

On the second day, we will begin the day with fitting sessions and learn about common modifications that are often made. You will then learn how to transfer these fitting modifications onto your own pattern and how to proof your pattern with final checks.

We will not be sewing your final garment on this course but my Studio Pass or Online Membership would be ideal to get additional support and accountability to make the finished garment.

Spaces are limited to 4 participants per class to provide the ultimate learning experience

Which pattern to bring on the Fitting Weekend?

You can bring any pattern you wish to the Fitting Weekend. I will check in with you beforehand to make sure that it is an appropriate pattern to use for the class, and to get an idea of what you believe your fitting issues are.

The pattern you choose does not need to be one you have already sewn (although this helps). An ideal pattern to bring would be a garment type you sew the most of, or that you have the most fitting troubles with.
